Welcome to
Cornubia
Cornubia is a
suburb of Logan City situated 31 kilometres south-east of
Brisbane. Cornubia is considered one of the most sought after
suburbs in Logan City due to its bush setting and closeness to
major shops (Logan Hyperdome) and first class educational
institutions (John Paul College, Calvary Christian College).
Many street names reflect its lush bush setting (e.g. Sugarwood,
Parkview). Cornubia is the Latin name for Cornwall.
Statistics
As of 2001, the population
of Cornubia was around 3300. 10 years prior there were only 2000
people in the area. The suburb has a young population (median
age of 35). About 6% of people are unemployed. Over 70% of
employed people travel by car which reflects the lack of
efficient and cost-effective public transport. All public
transport in the area is provided by Clarks' Buses, a privately
owned company.
After English (90%), the most spoken languages are Dutch and
German.

Profile
Its combination of rural and
urban residences makes Cornubia an attractive suburb for a
large variety of people. There is a mix of families and
retirees in Cornubia with the majority being
owner-occupiers.
Cornubia has lots of wide open spaces, especially around
California Creek and Mt Cotton roads where a number of
upmarket lifestyle properties can be found. Other homes in
the main streets are often clad in hardiplank or
weatherboard while a number of brick and tile units also
available in the area.
One of the suburb's most spectacular features is the
Cornubia nature reserve. The waterlily-covered lagoon was
once a quarry but the area has regenerated over time and is
now home to a variety of wildlife, ranging from larger
mammals such as koalas and wallabies, to water birds and
smaller aquatic life. Native ducks often feed amongst the
waterlilies.
There are eight primary and secondary schools in the area
with a variety of sporting clubs, including Cable Ski World
Logan, also nearby. The Logan Hyperdome is the retail
centre, and a major employer, for the area and is located
alongside the Pacific Motorway.
