Welcome to Tanah Merah
Tanah Merah means 'red earth' in Indonesian/Malay. This type of soil is found across the local area.  The land was once owned by the Murray family who sold it off in sections to developers. The Murray farm still exists in Tanah Merah and is located at the end of Murrays Road.  The Pacific Motorway borders the suburb and the Logan Motorway divides it.

The small Logan Shire suburb of Tanah Merah is located just off the Pacific Motorway and is characterised by homes on larger than average blocks with established trees. Some have views of the Logan River. A mixture of young and older people live in Tanah Merah. Older residents are attracted to the area's picturesque setting, while younger families are settling in the suburb because of its affordability. Tanah Merah, being located close to the Pacific and Logan motorways, is well positioned to access major infrastructure in the Logan area. The Logan Hyperdome is nearby, as are a number of public and private schools including John Paul College and Griffith University's Logan Campus. While most people work outside the area, the Logan Hyperdome and other retail areas also provide employment for residents living in the area. Most residents head to the Hyperdome for their shopping needs however there are some small shops a bit closer to home.Tanah Merah has a number of parks, while the Hyperdome area also provides plenty of activities for nearby residents
