Underwood
Underwood is a suburb located
south-east of the Brisbane CBD. The origin of the suburb name is
from William Underwood who was an early property owner in the
area. Logan Road, Kingston Road, Compton Road and
surrounding area encompass the Underwood business centre which
is a mixed-use urban development area incorporating the
Underwood / Slacks Creek industrial estate as well as retail,
commerce and office establishments. Retailers in Underwood
include Bunnings, Big W and Woolworths as well as The Zone which
is a privately-owned retail estate. The housing estates

Diverse mix of new and old homes
Profile
Underwood has come a long way since it was merely a rural
area dotted with weatherboard and ex-Housing Commission
homes. Almost like the little suburb that could, Underwood
is now home to some of the Logan Shire's most impressive,
and often most distinctive, properties.
A number of new estates have had an impact on prices in the
area with many houses architecturally designed. Development
is ongoing in the area as more and more people cotton on to
Underwood's ever-increasing appeal. Older weatherboard homes
and brick units can still be found in Underwood but perhaps
not for too much longer.
A fairly new suburb, it was gazetted in 1975, Underwood is
close to the Pacific and Gateway motorways as well as the
Kuraby train station. There are six primary and secondary
schools in the area as well as two shopping centres. Local
employment opportunities may be found at
nearby commercial and light industrial
companies, the Australia Post mail
exchange based in Underwood, and
businesses located in Springwood.
